How to Use Contrast to Create Stunning Cards

When the background of your card is more muted or subtle, any pop of color you add is going to catch people’s attention. It’s a quick and effective trick that adds a major visual impact with very little effort.

  1. Start with a Black-and-White Layer.
Keep things simple by stamping your background in black ink on white cardstock. Stamps with just an outline work wonders for this—think flowers, leaves, or geometric shapes. You don’t need to color these in. The black-and-white combination will set the stage for your pop of color to really shine.
  2. Pick One Image to Highlight.
Choose one of the stamped images from your background and cut it out using scissors or a coordinating die. This is where you can have a bit of fun with color!
  3. Go Bold with Color.

Patterned Paper Option

Use a die to cut out the focal image from a piece of Designer Series Paper.  Keep the background muted, but then use colorful paper for the focal point and envelope!
