Just grab a pack of note cards & envelopes, your favorite ink color and a blending brush! Cheap therapy! Haha! I found it so soothing and relaxing to build the color depths in these cards. Need a gift idea? This would make a fantastic gift paired with a stamp set. Blending brushes make perfect stocking stuffers, too!
Let's Get Started with Blending Brushes!
Ink up your blending brush by rubbing it in a circular motion on the ink pad. Start at the base of your card with light pressure and make circular motions moving across your card horizontally and then move up. This leaves the darkest color at the base of your card. Leave white space at the top. Go back through building layers of color from the base, increasing your pressure to add more depth of color.
Tip: Start by making circular motions with your brush on your scrap paper and then bring it onto your paper to avoid harsh lines.
Tip: Use the amount of pressure to your advantage. If you are wanting a faint hue, go really light. Build your pressure to make the saturation deeper. Watch the amount of pressure when your brush has a lot of ink on it because it can create unwanted brush marks.
Play around with different colors! You can even use multiple colors to create some really great effects.
Tip: Use the brushes directly from one ink to the next without waiting for them to dry if they are in the same color family. For example, use one brush for all the blues and another for yellows. You wouldn’t want a splotch of blue on your yellow ink pad.
You can step up this simple card by adding a colored cardstock background. If you want to give this card a try, here are the measurements.
Colored cardstock card base: 8 1/2” x 5 1/2” (scored at 4 1/4” and folded)
Basic white cardstock (exterior): 5 1/8” x 3 7/8”
Basic white cardstock (interior): 5 1/4” x 4”
